Images evolve from memories aided by sketches and photographs. My work verges to a greater or lesser degree on abstraction but has always as its focus a sense of atmosphere and light
I explore my world through mark making and texture focusing on atmosphere and mood. I work in
various media and honour the qualities of each one. I like to work with the physical and emotional
aspects of texture and surface, building up history in a complexity of surface by the interaction
of elements of texture and colour.
Often a desire to explore the physicality of texture leads to repetitively obliterating and uncovering surface mark-making building a sense of history.
I begin with a potential idea which may easily change as I progress. I very much enjoy experimenting with and being led by the physical properties of the painting materials.
I inhabit a space between abstraction and reality.
